The 12th Botswana Musicians Union (BOMU) Music Awards, an annual celebration of musical excellence, has announced the hosts for this year’s grand event, scheduled to take place on December 16, 2023, at Royal Aria, Tlokweng. The extravaganza night will be broadcast live on BTV at 8:00 PM. The highly anticipated ceremony will feature three hosts.
Taking the lead on the main stage will be two distinguished personalities: Entrepreneur, DJ, Producer, and one of Botswana’s most esteemed musical exports, Thato Sikwane, popularly known as DJ Fresh, along with esteemed media personality and entrepreneur Khumo ‘Miss GeeKays’ Kgwaadira. The red-carpet event will be hosted by the award-winning radio host Kedi ‘Lezozo’ Molosiwa. The theme for this year’s awards is “Music Beyond,” and “Beyond Music,” aiming to inspire both established and emerging artists to create music that transcends the ordinary.
The theme signifies the entire journey leading up to the Awards, recognizing and rewarding the essential contributors and musicians of the industry. The Top six categories determined by the public include Best Female, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, as well as Best Group/Duo. DJ Fresh expressed his delight in being part of the 12-year celebration, stating, “It is such an incredible honour to be trusted with such a mammoth task. I am looking forward to being a part of what will be a historic awards ceremony.” Positioning the event as a platform for the nation to recognize Botswana’s preeminent and daring artists, the BOMU Music Awards annually applaud those who continually impact, inspire, and bring joy to the hearts of the audience.
BOMU President Phemelo Lesokwane emphasized the importance of nurturing and affirming musical artistry, stating, “The BOMU Music Awards play a pivotal role in recognizing and affirming the incredible talent within our country. This year’s event promises to be bigger and better, and we are thrilled to have partnered with Events Lab, a local events and production company, to execute a stellar program leading up to the main event.”
