Cresta Mahalapye, a flagship property of Cresta Marakanelo Limited, proudly unveiled its new extension wing, the “South Wing”.
The event marked a significant milestone for Cresta Marakanelo Limited and the broader hospitality industry in Botswana. The ceremony, marked by a festive atmosphere, showcased the 60-room South Wing, adding to the existing North Wing, and bringing the total room inventory to 124 rooms.
The South Wing features two presidential suites, two executive suites, and a paraplegic-friendly room, all equipped with state-of-the-art amenities to meet the evolving needs of modern travelers.
Mokwena Morulane, the Managing Director of Cresta Marakanelo Limited, expressed his excitement about the new development, saying, “This journey started some 22 months ago in February 2022, with a ground-breaking ceremony to mark the commencement of this project. It gives us immense pride that this was taking place on the backdrop of the Covid-19 pandemic which had completely obliterated the travel and hospitality sector.”
The Managing Director also highlighted the strategic importance of the expansion, stating, “The result, as you see it, is a 60-roomed, aesthetically modern extension wing, which includes 2 of the finest presidential suites in this market, 2 executive suites, a paraplegic-friendly room, and 55 deluxe rooms, all with enhanced, innovative technologies to suit the business or leisure requirements of today.”
In addition to the new wing, Morulane shared the company’s broader vision for growth, revealing ongoing and upcoming investments in various properties across Botswana. He emphasized Cresta Marakanelo Limited’s commitment to becoming “a Dominant Mid-Scale Hotel Group in Southern Africa” and outlined plans for technological advancements, including the implementation of a new cloud-based property management system.
Hon Aubrey Lesaso, the Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, commended Cresta Marakanelo Limited for its contribution to Botswana’s economic development. He stated, “Cresta Marakanelo employs over 970 employees across its hotels, 99% of whom are citizens of Botswana, and are trained in various skills and expertise critical to the hospitality industry of the now and that of the future.”
The Assistant Minister further emphasized the government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for the private sector and acknowledged Cresta Marakanelo’s role in contributing to the Vision 2036 agenda. The newly developed south wing of Cresta Mahalapye stands as a beacon of modernity and innovation, boasting cutting-edge technology seamlessly integrated into every facet of its design.
