The President HE Dr. Mokgweetsi Masisi will join the Department of Broadcasting Services (DBS) National Tour in Palapye this Friday, 18th November 2022, in a town hall conversation led by renowned DJ Fresh, born Thato Sikwane.
The tour which has by far been a success with over 10 artists getting a chance to go into studio and record with DJ Fresh is characterised by workshops and talent shows featuring Botswana Entertainment and Promoters Association (BEPA), Botswana Musicians Union (BOMU) and the Copyright Society of Botswana (COSBOTS). It also features the department’s officials, with emphasis on educating artists in the business of airplay and recording.
President Masisi, a staunch advocate of creatives has in his regime opened to creatives to improve their craft and monetize it. Some of HE Masisi’s efforts to build a solid creative industry in Botswana include his significant engagements where he called all creatives to the State House in 2019 in Gaborone for a similar conversation.
Paramount to his rule, the National Art Council has been established to also guide the creative industry’s prowess. The DBS Tour has seen DJ Fresh and his team, alongside other project partners, empower over 300 creatives in various places across Botswana, including Kanye, Jwaneng, Ghanzi, D’kar, Maun, Letlhakane, Selibe Phikwe, Francistown, Sebina and Sowa Town. It is expected to end on December 17th, 2022.
The Palapye activation is free and open to all.
