Miam’s quest to bridge the health care gap

Miam, a newly established pharmacy is on course to offer quality and affordable health care services while bridging the health care gap that exists within the country. The pharmacy prides itself with being a female owned pharmaceutical company that has an array of innovative services as well as being customer oriented.

“We are innovative, and we follow the trends in the market, we offer delivery services, we offer discount to students, telephonic pharmaceutical care, medication consultancy over the phone for patients who need information and we have extended operating hours to meet our market demands. We strive to avail as wide as possible range of medications for our patients to have one stop service. E-services,” said the Chief Executive Officer of Miam Pharmacy, Thato Kenaope.

Founded in June 2021, Miam has two branches so far. Kenaope said the idea to open the pharmacy was inspired by her understanding of diseases and treatment and the desire to assist people overcome ailments. The CEO further noted that it was about establishing a unique pathway after seeing the need for more pharmaceutical interventions especially during the COVID-19 pandemic which impacted negative on public health systems.  “Apart from this, a lot of people around me showed inquisitiveness on medication and wanted to know more about how to take certain products and where to find products,” she said.

Through its branches, Miam pharmacy offers the bespoke services which are tailor made for the market need. The branches are located at   Extension 12, Gaborone, Plot 3417 @ St George’s Medical Centre operating until 23 00hrs with the services of both a doctor and a pharmacist while another branch is at Extension 2 at the Premium Medical Centre, Plot 717.

“It’s been a pleasure working at Miam more so that we have received positive reviews that has encouraged us to work even harder to improve our services,” Ms kenaope added.

The 33 year old CEO and Founder who hails from Goo Moremi in Tswapong completed her Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm)   at Nelson Mandela University in 2013 and has been practicing as a pharmacist to date but still harbors dreams of seeing the business expand into other parts of Botswana. 

“We plan to have at least one bigger Miam pharmacy with a fully-fledged over-the-counter medicines, and also to have more branches in other parts of the country, to grow the brand,” she said.

 Additionally, the new firm intends to also to explore distribution as its one of the bottlenecks in pharmaceutical supply chain.
