Botswana is a diamond country and diamonds are Batswana. A landlocked Southern Africa country, a rich producer of diamonds by value has a story to tell the world. This year, the reigning Miss Botswana Lesego Chombo, a lawyer by profession will dazzle the Miss World ramp wrapped with a P70m worth of a diamond neckpiece in the finale slated 9th March 2024 in India.
With the support of Lucara Botswana and Messika, Chombo will grace the Miss World stage wearing the exclusive Akh-Ba-Ka necklace by Messika. Securing this exquisite piece for the occasion was a major undertaking, which attests to Lucara Botswana’s global influence and commitment to collaboration with partners and stakeholders.
According to the communique from Lucara Botswana, “Akh-Ba-Ka will serve not only as an enhancement to Lesego’s beauty and elegance, but to reflect the diversity of Botswana’s treasures – unearthed through Lucara Botswana’s pursuit of excellence. It is though through such diamond purchases that Lucara Botswana is able to continue its mandate to create positive economic and social benefits; partnering with our communities as well as delivering on our promises and commitments to the government and people of Botswana”.
The extraordinary journey of this world-renowned haute joaillerie began at Lucara Botswana’s Karowe mine, where a rare 110-carat rough diamond was recovered. This exceptional stone is one of only a few that have been found across the world. Messika’s daring vision transformed it into the magical masterpiece worn by international stars, the likes of Naomi Campbell and Irina Shayk.
Messika’s artistry is defined by a signature allegiance to preserving the stone’s essence while crafting timeless pieces. Lesego Chombo will wear the iconic ensemble of 15 gems, which include a dazzling 33-carat centrepiece.
If the prior to the finale of Miss World are anything to go by, Chombo has done well so far winning challenges and her poise articulation in answering questions has won her many hearts around the World.
