It’s getting hot in here! Entertainment personalities Randall Abrahams, Busiswa and Farieda Metsileng have been announced as the first three panellists for the Comedy Central Roast of Pearl Thusi airing on Comedy Central (DStv Channel 122) on 8 December at 21:00 CAT.
The #RoastofPearl will take no prisoners as an all-star pop-culture panel sharpens their tongues to roast South Africa’s favourite “Black Pearl” – while not sparing each other’s egos in the process!
Media personality Abrahams, whose acid wit and no-holds-barredapproach have earned him the nicknames “Mr Nasty” and “the Bad Judge” on Idols SA, says, “I’ve come across my fair share of celebrity egos during my time in the industry, and I’m not about to start massaging any now. I have the greatest respect for Pearl and my fellow panellists, but I’ll take great pleasure in cutting them down to size. After all, if you’ve made a conscious decision to be in the biz, you need to be able to take the heat!”
Singer-songwriter Busiswa, who styles herself “Her Majesty the Queen” on Instagram, plans to adopt a similarly uncompromising approach to the #RoastofPearl: “Pearl is used to being in the spotlight, but will she be prepared for the shots fired while she’s sitting in the Roast hot seat? I’m loading a whole lot of verbal ammunition into my armoury and can’t wait to royally roast this icon of the screen and the airwaves … from one queen to another! MAKUYIWE!”
Farieda, an actress (uBettina Wethu), comedian and social media personality popularly known as Pharoahfi, is licking her chops at the prospect of an epic roasting session. She says, “So many South African celebrities take themselves way too seriously. They need to lighten up! I truly believe that laughter is the best medicine, and I fully intend to milk every moment of the #RoastofPearl for every giggle, chuckle and roar possible. I can’t wait to cut the Roasters and Roastee alike down to size!”
Monde Twala, Senior Vice President and General Manager at Paramount Africa, and Lead at BET International, says anticipation and excitement levels are already going through the roof for what is sure to be a Roast for the ages. He notes, “We are assembling a powerhouse pop-culture panel for the Comedy Central Roast of Pearl Thusi served by Smirnoff Spicy Tamarind, and I can tell you that it’s shaping up to be an epic occasion that will have social media abuzz and leave audiences in stitches. With the combined star power of Pearl, Randall, Busiswa and Pharoahfi on board, and more Roasters still to be revealed, I have no doubt it’s going to be our spiciest Roast yet. And Pearl is more than up for the challenge!”
