on Discovery Channel Africa

In the heart of Africa’s wilderness, a breathtaking spectacle unfolds each year – tens of thousands of African elephants undertake a remarkable 650-mile migration from the arid Kalahari Desert to the lush Okavango Delta in Botswana. These gentle giants are the stars of Walking with Elephants, a captivating series premiering on Discovery Channel Africa (DStv Channel 121)starting on Wednesday, 16 April at 20:05 CAT.

Led by celebrated explorer and conservationist Levison Wood, this journey offers an intimate look at the world’s largest land animals and the challenges they face in their quest for survival. Wood, joined by local bushman and guide Kane Motswana, immerses himself in the elephants’ world, walking alongside them to witness their extraordinary migration and uncover the dangers threatening their future.

For centuries, African elephants have been icons of strength, intelligence, and beauty. Today, their very existence hangs in the balance. Once numbering in the millions, fewer than 450,000 remain, driven to the brink by poaching, habitat loss, and human conflict. Without urgent intervention, these majestic creatures could disappear within our lifetime.

“Walking with these magnificent animals is both an adventure and a privilege,” shares Wood. “To travel in their footsteps is to witness their struggles, triumphs, and the delicate balance of life in one of Africa’s last great wildernesses. It’s a journey that will change the way we see elephants – and ourselves.”

This powerful documentary series combines stunning visuals with a compelling narrative, revealing the awe-inspiring resilience of the elephants and the urgent need to protect them. From close encounters with predators to breathtaking landscapes, Walking with Elephants captures the heart of Africa and its incredible wildlife.
