The newly elected 6th President of Botswana, His Excellency Advocate Duma Boko has on Wednesday afternoon announced his Specially Elected Members of Parliament (SEMP) in the first meeting of the National Assembly in Gaborone.
True to his affirmation when accepting the call to run the presidency office, he said his administration will run the government based on merit, referring to the human capital he is subjected to appoint. The newly elected six SEMPs’ educational and career backgrounds are based on merit.
Despite the predictions and political considerations many political pundits aforementioned, President Adv. Boko has pinned his hopes on the following six individual to help build up his cabinet which is also expected to be announced soon to get the country going after peaceful and fair elections held last month.
Bogolo Kanewendo
A surprise inclusion according to many political pundits. She returns to parliament for the second time as SEMP having served before as Minister of Trade and industry. Kanewendo holds a Masters in International Economics and a BA in Economics, ideal to lead ministry of finance should the Vice President be omitted from having two portfolios. She can also return to her old ministry of trade and industry. In the recent year she has spent much time overseas with some pundits not ruling out the ministry of foreign affairs.
Nono Kgafela-Mokoka
The former employ with University of Botswana almost defeated the Botswana Democratic Party stalwart Mapuse Pule. With her launch graced by President Boko in the build up to elections, Kgafela-Mokoka was surely in the president’s cabinet aspirations. She is expected to head ministry of tertiary education, technology and research. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities, a MA in Languages and also Diploma in Education.
Major General Pius Mokgware
With much experience in the barracks, The General is a soldier par excellence. He holds a Masters in Strategic Studies, BA Administration and various Military Training. He is expected to hold the ministry of defense and security, closing the chapter of some quarters who were rooting him to become the next DISS boss. Ironically, he lost elections to the former minister of the same portfolio.
Dr Steven Modise
Described as the handsome in the new administration, the good doctor holds a PhD in General Practitioner Surgeon, ideal for ministry of health. Dr Modise is a staunch Botswana National Front member in the UDC led government.
Lesego Chombo
Political pundits don’t saw her inclusion coming particularly with age and inspirations to grow her career in law. However some suggests that this is a move by the UDC to cultivate their land politically in and around Maun where it’s a strong opposition party home. The reigning Miss World Africa is touted to lead or be assistant minister at ministry of youth, gender, sport and culture. Chombo has been working with kids in marginalized communities through her foundation and represented Botswana at Miss World to top 4 position. She holds holds Bachelor Degree in Law (LLB) from University of Botswana.
Moeti Mohwasa
The spin doctor of the UDC for the longest time. President Boko is surrounded by class acts, demeanor of a spokesperson to the government. Mohwasa is likely to head ministry for State Presidency. A former editor and managing partner with Mirror, he brings wealth of media experience which could be ideal to transformation of the mass media complex entities to becoming public broadcasters. Other commentators had predicted he might assume the Press Secretary to the President.
Meanwhile President Advocate Boko had on Tuesday also announced that Nkosinathi Ndaba Gaolathe will become the vice president of the Republic of Botswana subject to protocol processes.
