The world’s largest African mining investment event, Investing in African Mining Indaba 2023, taking place in Cape Town, South Africa on 6-9 February 2023, is set to provide delegates with valuable insight into the continent’s latest mining trends and investment opportunities.  The extensive programme provides thought-leadership focusing on the future of mining, tackling key topics facing the mining industry to drive investment opportunities into Africa.

The Cape Town International Conference Centre (CTICC) welcomed the 7,000+ delegates registered so far from over 100 countries, of which over 60 are government delegations including ministers and ambassadors, 350+ are executives from junior mining companies, 700+ investors and 400+ mid-tier and major mining companies are represented.

Simon Ford, Portfolio Director for Investing in African Mining Indaba says, “In addition to the most comprehensive programme of speakers, Mining Indaba 2023 offers unequalled opportunities for miners, suppliers, financiers, investors and government leaders. For almost three decades, Mining Indaba is the place where the mining community comes together to share and create dialogue that can spark change and ultimately, drive investment.”

Top sessions include a keynote address with outgoing Eskom CEO Andre de Ruyter whose reflections will undoubtedly equip mining sector companies operating in South Africa with valuable perspectives on power prospects in the years ahead. Mining Indaba 2023 offers delegates the extraordinary opportunity to hear Mauritania Minister of Petroleum, Energy and Mines, Hon. Abdessalem Ould Mohamed Saleh, in conversation with former De Beers Botswana CEO Sheila Khama and Kinross Gold CEO Paul Rollinson.

In addition, there will be a focus on the shifting nature of resource nationalism on the continent in a panel discussion convened by well-known mining law specialist Warren Beech as he guides discussion with several mining, exploration and mining association executives on questions around ownership issues, the beneficiation imperative and the impact of the African Continental Free Trade Area.

The brand new three-day InfraTech content programme promises fascinating insights by industry experts as they delve into mining technology innovation, critical mineral exploration, supply chains, the just energy transition, and the changing nature of work, that will feed into the building and delivering mines of the future.

To encourage greater interest in exploration, and to drive investment into African mining at the early stages, another new addition to Mining Indaba is the Explorer’s Showcase. 29 exploration companies with a market capitalisation of no more than US$25 million and projects located in Africa will have an opportunity to present their plans to investors and top financiers at Mining Indaba.

Making a return is the Investment Battlefield, the renowned platform for pitching Africa’s hottest junior mining companies against each with a 2-day programme that will be held across both the Mining Indaba and 121 Cape Town events.

The Sustainable Development Day programme on Tuesday 7 February will provide cutting-edge insight into present-day challenges, what tomorrow’s challenges are likely to be and how effectively the industry has dealt with sustainability issues in recent times.

2023’s Mining Indaba theme is ‘Unlocking African Mining Investment: Stability, Security, and Supply’. It was carefully devised in light of the world’s geopolitical shifts, the residual impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and fast-growing climate change pressures, all of which have led to a series of unprecedented shifts in international economic dynamics. “These changes are the source of new challenges for the industry, but also open new opportunities for African mining as demand for new forms of strategic minerals takes the industry into new territory and also consolidates demand for traditional minerals.”, says, Simon Ford. During the four days of Mining Indaba, delegates will also benefit from mainstay content streams including the Ministerial Symposium, Intergovernmental Summit, Green Metals Day, the Young Leaders Forum and the General Counsel Forum.
