In a bid to inspire and educate the young minds of tomorrow, PPC Botswana recently hosted a highly successful career guidance day, welcoming 30 children from the SOS Children’s Village ranging from Standard 7 to Form 5. The event, aimed at shedding light on various job opportunities and professions, particularly those within PPC Botswana and the manufacturing industry, left a lasting impact on the attending children.
The event was a vibrant amalgamation of learning, interaction, and discovery. The children were given a unique opportunity to gain insights into a myriad of careers, while understanding the educational pathways that lead to their realization. The event also played a pivotal role in nurturing the attendees’ interests and guiding them towards making informed decisions about their future career paths.
“We believe in empowering the youth with knowledge about different career options available to them,” said Tuelo Botlhole, the Head of Business Unit at PPC Botswana. “The career guidance day was a wonderful platform for us to connect with these young minds, helping them recognize their potential and encouraging them to pursue their dreams with determination.”
The engaging day began with mentors from various professions engaging with the children, providing them with firsthand knowledge about their respective careers. This interaction allowed the young participants to gain deeper insights into the roles, responsibilities, and day-to-day activities associated with different jobs. The presence of Lucky Kgosithebe from Human Resource Development Council (HRDC) was an enriching experience as he presented on the topic of Career Trends in Botswana.
One of the highlights of the day was the Cement plant Tour, where the children were treated to an immersive tour of the cement manufacturing process. Led by PPC Botswana officials, the tour offered a tangible experience of how theoretical knowledge translates into real-world production. This hands-on exposure not only made the learning process more engaging but also helped the children understand the intricate workings of the manufacturing industry.
The objectives of the career guidance day aligned seamlessly with the broader vision of nurturing young talent and aiding them in making informed decisions about their educational journey. By equipping the attendees with knowledge about various professions, educational paths, and aligning their aspirations with practical opportunities, PPC Botswana demonstrated its commitment to supporting the growth and development of the local community.
In the words of Botlhole, “We envision a future where these children become the skilled workforce and leaders of our nation. Through initiatives like these, we are sowing the seeds for a brighter tomorrow, where every individual can harness their potential and contribute to the growth of our society.”
The career guidance day organized by PPC Botswana not only provided the children with valuable insights but was also in line with the organization’s purpose of empowering Batswana to experience a better quality of life. It served as a source of motivation, igniting their passion for exploration, learning, and the pursuit of excellence. As the event concluded, it was evident that the impact of the guidance and mentorship provided would resonate in the hearts and minds of the young attendees for years to come.
