The University of Botswana community and members of the public are informed of the upcoming inaugural annual UB marathon activation. The activation will be held on 08 October 2022.
Fearless Fitness Club in conjunction with the Student Representative Council (SRC) will lead the activation which will start from the UB stadium covering the 10 km and 21km routes.
Other activities on the day will include body assessments, aerobics and yoga. The sole purpose of this event is to build momentum for the main event which is part of the university’s 40th anniversary celebrations which will be held on 27 November 2022.
The primary purpose of the marathon is to raise funds for the University of Botswana scholarship programme, as well as to showcase the university’s role of being a pioneer of sport development as well as a meaningful contributor to the economy across all sectors.
The marathon is spearheaded by the UB Foundation together with a Local Organising Committee (LOC) comprising none other than the prominent Sport Science expert, Dr. Tshepang Tshube, and internationally renowned athletics coach, Mr. Justice Dipeba, together with other UB staff members.
Through the power of athletics, the marathon seeks to bring together stakeholders under one roof to enable “Mmadikolo” as UB is affectionally known, to celebrate its 40 years with the nation at large. Registration for the marathon has commenced and can be accessed through the UB website. The race has four categories, 42.2 KM, 21.1KM, 10KM and the 5KM fun run.
Through this activation, the organisers hope to sensitise the public on the importance of exercise and provide an opportunity for networking. The public is welcome to participate.
