The Botswana Cricket Association (BCA) has announced the nomination of national team captain Laura Mophakedi to represent the country at a prestigious Level 1 Umpires Tutor Course to be held in Eswatini from 16th to 18th April 2025.
Laura departed Botswana on the 15th of April to participate in the three-day course, which is aimed at empowering experienced umpires to become certified tutors capable of developing future match officials across the region.

Laura Mophakedi’s journey in cricket officiating began during one of the ISSSA (Independent Schools Sports Association) tournaments, where her passion for the game and sharp decision-making skills stood out. Since then, she has broken barriers by becoming the first female umpire to officiate in both the BCA’s domestic and national league matches – a historic achievement that continues to inspire young women in cricket across the country.
Her nomination for this course marks a significant milestone in her umpiring career and further emphasizes BCA’s commitment to nurturing talent and promoting gender inclusion in all aspects of the game.
