The much anticipated track and field showpiece FNB Botswana Golden Grand Prix is set to return bigger and better, with Orange Botswana committing P1 million to help stage a world-class event that continues to attract top international athletes.
The prestigious meet, which has previously featured global stars, is rapidly cementing its place as one of Africa’s premier athletics events. This year’s edition promises another electrifying showdown, presenting elite sprinters and track specialists from around the world. The event is scheduled to take place on April 12, 2025 at National Stadium in Gaborone.
Orange Botswana CEO Néné Maïga emphasized the importance of hosting a high-profile competition that places Botswana on the global athletics map.
“The FNB Botswana Golden Grand Prix is not just a race, it’s a global sporting spectacle. It brings the world’s best athletes to our tracks, creating an event that captures international attention and boosts the country’s sporting profile,” she said.

With Orange Botswana’s financial backing, the event is expected to deliver seamless logistics, world-class facilities, and a premium experience for both athletes and spectators. The sponsorship ensures top-tier technical support, improved infrastructure, and enhanced event coverage, solidifying Botswana’s position as a go-to destination for elite athletics.
Beyond the sport, the Grand Prix also serves as a major economic driver, attracting international visitors, sports media, and corporate investors. Orange Botswana also encouraged the general public to attend the event in large numbers to support the athletes and contribute to the event’s growth. According to Maïga, the event’s impact extends far beyond the track.
“A competition of this magnitude brings tourism, business, and global exposure to Botswana. It’s an opportunity for the country to showcase its ability to host international sporting events at the highest level,” she said.

In the previous season, Orange Botswana contributed P600,000 to the event, increasing the sponsorship to P1 million this year signals a greater commitment to elevating the Grand Prix’s status. As one of the continent’s most anticipated athletics meets, the FNB Botswana Golden Grand Prix is set to deliver yet another thrilling edition faster times, record-breaking performances, and a global spotlight on Botswana’s growing reputation as a top-tier athletics hub.
“We are proud to help bring the world to Botswana. This event is a statement that Botswana is ready to host and compete at the highest level of international athletics,” Maïga concluded.
With the countdown officially on, anticipation is building for what promises to be one of the standout events on this year’s athletics calendar.
