The Summer Kids Marathon (SKM) has fulfilled its promise to its patrons by donating school shoes worth P10, 000. 00 (Ten thousand Pula) to Medie Primary School in Kweneng District on the 23rd September 2022. The donation follows a successful inaugural SKM in April 2022, held at the Three Dikgosi Monument in Gaborone CBD where a total of 250 kids participated.
Among the marathon’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) included adopting a primary school, to improve education of the pupils through motivational talks and tutoring.
When receiving the donations, the school’s Acting headmaster Seitiso Setshogo said the donation will go a long way and thanked the organizers for their generosity. She further pleaded with the organizers of the marathon to at least take a certain number of students to participate next year and join their peers.
“We are extremely excited to have been chosen by the Kids Marathon organizers to be the benefactor of their activity’s dividends. As a school we would like to feature in the marathon in the future so that they (organizers) can have more to donate to other pupils elsewhere. We will further look into our pupils who are less privileged to benefit from the donations”.
For her part, the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) Chairperson Fola Makhaya also shared the acting headmaster’s sentiments. She further emphasized that Medie village is a remote area with limited urban developments and therefore students in her area are under privileged to some of the urban areas activities.
“Our students, some of them are less privileged so those who are going to benefit we are confident that it will also improve their marks. We remain grateful and encourage more sponsors to join hands with SKM to become a national project”.
Meanwhile the organizers of the SKM have announced that the marathon will take place in April 2023 with early birds’ tickets going on sale effective November 1st, 2022.
“Our first edition was a success, we managed to get 250 kids register and participate and next year we are targeting at least 500 kids. We are officially at the beginning of the 2nd edition and we appeal to more partners and sponsors to join hands. We are forever grateful for all the sponsors that came on board in our inaugural edition. We want to be able to adopt more primary schools as we want the kids to understand the importance of education parallel with fitness and sports”, reads a communique from the organizers.
The marathon is organised by Fan’Mo Sports Agency.
