In a significant stride towards bridging Botswana’s digital divide, Orange Botswana through its CSR arm the Orange Botswana Foundation recently launched its 80th Orange Digital School at Mosu Primary School in the Boteti district’s Mosuvillage, a collaborative effort with Debswana Orapa Mine.
This milestone highlights the telcom’s CSR am, Orange Botswana Foundation’s steadfast dedication to empowering schools across the country.
The Orange Digital Schools Programme, driven by the Orange Botswana Foundation, aims to provide students in underserved areas with vital digital tools and educational resources, ensuring access to quality education that fosters digital literacy and inclusion.
As part of this initiative, Mosu Primary School received a comprehensive digital school kit that includes 50 tablets, 50 headsets, a projector and screen for interactive learning, a JBL speaker for the classroom’s audio-visual needs, a Raspberry Pi server pre-loaded with upper primary syllabus, and a teacher’s laptop to facilitate lesson planning.
Acting Legal & Corporate Affairs Director Patrick Yane, speaking at the launch event, emphasized the program’s impact on education equity across Botswana.
“Our commitment to empowering Botswana’s youth through digital learning tools is stronger than ever,” he stated. “With each digital school we establish, we’re not only providing technology; we’re opening doors to opportunity for children in every corner of our country.”
This addition of Mosu Primary to Orange Botswana’s Digital Schools Programme marks a crucial milestone in the journey toward the Foundation’s 100-school target, with each step helping reduce educational disparities between urban and rural communities. The Programme also ensures that students in remote areas have access to the same learning content as their peers in more connected parts of the country, fostering an inclusive learning environment.
“We are making strategic investments in our nation’s future by bringing essential digital tools to the schools that need them most,” said Yane. “This isn’t just about technology; it’s about setting students on a path to success and showing them that they can aspire to achieve anything.”
Beyond the digital resources from Orange Botswana, Debswana Orapa Mine contributed laptops, blankets, administrative supplies, and other essential items to further support Mosu Primary School. This well-rounded contribution highlights the power of collaborative efforts to holistically support the educational and practical needs of the school.
Yane also underscored the importance of partnerships in making initiatives like these possible. “We’re grateful for the dedication of partners like Debswana Orapa Mine, who share our commitment to education and digital inclusion,” she remarked. “Together, we’re creating lasting impact for the communities we serve.”
Orange Botswana’s Digital Schools Programme is part of the company’s broader Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy, which strives to uplift communities through education, technology, and sustainable development. The Programme has played a key role in closing the digital gap in Botswana, laying a foundation for students to succeed in an increasingly connected and competitive world.
The launch of the digital school in Mosu marks a pivotal step toward transforming Botswana’s educational landscape, bringing vital resources and hope to students eager to learn. For Orange Botswana, this initiative reflects not only a celebration of progress but a testament to the enduring strength of partnerships and shared visions for a better, brighter future for all.
