When it comes to watching television, there is no surprise that most viewers tune in for the love of all things football. According to a recent report run in 2020 by Top Media Advertising in the United Kingdon, the FIFA 2018 World Cup alone brought in an estimated 1.1bn viewers, making it the most watched competition in the world, with the Premier League audience reaching up to an estimated 3.2 billion during the 2018/19 season.
With the endless amount of football, and almost any other sport, available on DStv, it’s easy to forget all the other amazing content available on the platform. At a recently held Content Showcase hosted at the Game City Rooftop Terrace in Gaborone, MultiChoice Botswana introduced media guests to a round-up of upcoming content to help non-football fans reclaim the remote control and enjoy great content inside and outside of football season.
Switching things up by bringing viewers gripping documentaries focusing on telling the stories we’ve all wanted to hear about our local African icons, launching new jaw-dropping reality series that show an authentic, raw and un-cut view of relatable content unique to African audiences, and bringing award-winning telenovelas to viewers across the entire package spectrum, DStv’s upcoming line-up is definitely enough to keep you entertained beyond the football field.
Speaking at the recently held Content Showcase, MultiChoice Botswana Corporate Affairs Manager, Thembile Legwaila commented: “We take pride in continuously looking at our offering in order to ensure that we are keeping up with viewer trends and giving customers variety as they continue to enjoy their viewing experience on DStv. The Pay-Tv model is a tricky one as it’s easy for viewers to feel overwhelmed by the number of channels available, leading them to stick to a handful of channels out of habit. The objective of our Content Showcases is really to shine a light on some of the unknown and unexpected content which we repeatedly bring our customers throughout the year.”
With a vision to be Africa’s most loved storyteller, a concerted effort has been made to bring DStv Botswana viewers more authentic African stories that can be seen by an upsurge of new content on channels such as Honey! A 4-part weekly docuseries which will air on DStv Compact’s Mzansi Magic Ch 161 at 21h00. The series will introduce viewers to the football legend’s life both on-and-off the pitch, showing them a side of Khumalo which will bring joy, nostalgia, excitement and even tears.
Whether you’re single or married, there’s no secret that we all enjoy watching the love lives of other individuals, and with the launch of the interestingly titled Sexy Sundays (Mzansi Magic Ch 161), DStv customers are in for a real treat. Hosted by former Kwaito-star turned Reverend, Kabelo Mabalane and his actress wife, Gail Mabalane, Sexy Sundays is a variety show exploring the relationships of some of South Africa’s most admired celebrity couples. Through creatively pairing different celebrity couples the show will reveal how love comes in different shapes and preferences and inspire our audiences to love again.
For the telenovela addicts that want to stay on trend with some of the most talked-about shows on TV, DStv has you covered with shows such as Showmax Original, The Wife (S1), and The River (S4), being available on Mzansi Magic Ch 161 which airs on Mon-Wed at 21:30 and Weekdays at 19:00, respectively.
“It’s undeniable that sport is the ultimate crowd-puller when it comes to television consumption, however as a business we’re equally committed to making sure all of our audiences, sports fans and non-sports fans alike, are able to find content that suits their needs and keeps them glued to their screens,” says Legwaila.
