Leading cement manufacturing entity PPC Botswana has donated 12 desktop computers with installed software and workstations valued at P50 000 to Tlhale Primary School in the Gumare region.

“Education is one of our key focus areas at PPC Botswana and we are pleased to be able to meet an immediate and practical need as some of the students will be preparing for their final exams. Education is important and we want to ensure that students have the required learning tools. Education has a direct impact on life expectancy and overall health. It’s also a powerful agent of change that can lift generations out of poverty,” said PPC Botswana Head of Business Unit, Tuelo Botlhole.

He further stated that the presence of the 12 computers will improve the performance of the students helping them to engage better with their school work and experience a better quality of life. “It’s believed that computers in education completely enhance students’ mathematical knowledge, critical thinking, and improve scores, besides helping with problem-solving”.

This development took place after Tlhale primary school which has 350 students experienced several challenges such as a shortage of classrooms, shortage of water supplies and lack of academic resources.

“Due to these challenges, the school is not performing according to the standard and experiencing a decline in PSLE results every year. We are striving to reach and exceed the target of 80% pass rate as Tlhale Primary School” said the School Head Ebineng.

In 2019 the school’s results declined from 73% to 58% in 2020. Upon receiving the computers and workstations Tlhale Primary School students, teachers, and residents expressed their gratitude, stating that the development is a step in the right direction that will improve the learning conditions.

Through its CSR programme, PPC Botswana has previously worked with schools such as Mogonono Primary School in the Kweneng district which received textbooks worth P100 000.
