GABORONE – In support of the hard work, dedication and critical role of Botswana’s media, Botswana Life Insurance Limited (Botswana Life) proudly sponsored the Media Institute of Southern Africa Botswana Chapter (MISA) Awards. The awards ceremony was hosted at Cresta Lodge on the 1st of December 2022.

MISA is an organisation founded in 1991 whose mission is to advocate for media freedom and freedom of expression in the Southern African region. Over the years, MISA programmes have grown and now have a global outreach through its media violations monitoring programme.

Said Minister of Trade and Industry, Mmusi Kgafela, “This is truly a significant occasion. We are honoured to support media in Botswana as they contribute to upholding the standards of democracy for all. We recognise and celebrate all nominees present. We also recognise their contribution in their respective fields. As the media industry develops, so too does the Nation. Congratulations to all the nominees, we are grateful for your hard work and efforts in providing fair and balanced reporting.”

Presenting the award alongside the Minister, Botswana Life PR, Communications and Marketing Manager, Gabriel Tlagae stated, “we are pleased to be here supporting these awards today. As we move towards building a knowledge-based economy, journalism is at the heart of shaping this future. As a home-grown insurer, we recognise and understand the support needed by journalists. It is indeed our duty to facilitate a standard of transparency and accountability while holding true to our values of corporate citizenship.”

“In a time of mass information and viral miscommunication, the role of journalists is more important than ever. Our societies rely on the core values of journalism, being truthfulness and objectivity, to stay informed and shape the development of Botswana. As Botswana Life, we recognise the media fraternity and applaud MISA for their continued efforts towards fulfilling their mandate,” concluded Tlagae.
