Botswana Public Officers Medical Aid Scheme (BPOMAS) has marked 35 years of dedicated service to the people of Botswana, marking more than three decades of consistent delivery of quality healthcare financing, customer-focused service and long-term contribution to the country’s health sector. Established in 1990, BPOMAS has grown into one of Botswana’s most trusted medical aid schemes, serving generations of public officers and their families. Over the past 35 years, the Scheme has evolved alongside the nation’s healthcare landscape, adapting to changing needs while remaining grounded in its founding purpose of improving access to quality healthcare.

From its early beginnings to its current national footprint, BPOMAS has remained a reliable partner in health, supporting members through every stage of life. Its longevity stands as a testament to strong governance, sound financial management and an unwavering commitment to service excellence. Speaking on this milestone, BPOMAS Group Chief Executive Officer Thulaganyo Molebatsi reflected on the Scheme’s enduring legacy, “reaching 35 years is a powerful reminder of the trust that generations of Batswana have placed in BPOMAS. Our longevity is built on consistency, integrity and an unshakable commitment to putting our members first. We have grown with our members, and many families have trusted us across generations.” As a key player in Botswana’s medical aid sector, BPOMAS has played a significant role in strengthening access to healthcare by forging strong partnerships with healthcare providers, investing in wellness and prevention, and continuously improving its benefit offering to remain relevant in a fast-changing environment.

On the Scheme’s strategic direction, Chief Operations Officer, Tirafalo Otlhogile said, “our strategy has always been anchored on sustainability, member value and innovation. Over the years, we have strengthened our systems, enhanced benefits and improved service delivery to ensure that BPOMAS remains resilient and responsive to the needs of our members and the healthcare market.”

Looking ahead, BPOMAS is positioning itself for the future through digital transformation, enhanced wellness programmes and a continued focus on member experience, while maintaining the financial stability that has defined its success for more than three decades. Commenting on the future, Marketing, PR & Communications Manager, Lesire Mpotokwane added, “the future of BPOMAS is one of growth, innovation and deeper impact. As we look ahead, we are focused on building a smarter, more agile medical aid scheme that continues to offer value, supports preventative health and responds effectively to the evolving healthcare needs of our members.”

The 35th anniversary celebrations serve not only as a moment to reflect on the past, but also as a reaffirmation of BPOMAS’ commitment to delivering dependable, high-quality healthcare support for many years to come.
