Five years ago, Fairy Tree Academy opened its academic doors for all prospective students; from kindergarten to primary school leaving students. Consequently,on the 2nd December 2023, the school started festivities to celebrate their milestone with a corporate social responsibility to give back to its community that nurtured our existence.
With the help of the Gaborone West Welfare office, an under privileged family was identified where one child from the family will receive a scholarship and a family helped to start a sustainable business . The business a tuckshop and opening stock.
The school managements, students and parents participated in a sponsored walk to raise funds for the aforementioned with a significant 5km to mark 5 year anniversary.
When welcoming the participants, School head Charity Makwaza said, “we are grateful for the participation of parents in our intiative. From their busy schedules they came to support us as they are aware that it take a community to raise a child. In our celebration of 5 years we want to contribute to the education of a child. We could be raising the next influential person of the future and as the school it will give us our satisfaction”.
For her part, renowned media personality, Kgomotso Tshwenyego of BTV’s My Star and Duma FM fame on behalf of the parents acknowledged the importance of participating in children’s activities to build bonds and be closer. She advised parents to also monitor wayward behaviour in kids as often is created by lack of communication between the latter.
“This walk between parents and their kids is actually an eye opener, I was fascinated by their resilience to finish the 5km walk. The team work on the road showed that we have to create this bondage, create more parents-kids activities so they become our friends. I therefore request that the school do more initiatives that involves us both”, said Tshwenyego.
