Stanbic Bank Botswana’s unwavering commitment towards helping advance greater academic excellence continues, most recently partnering with Botswana Examinations Council (BEC) for 13th Annual Excellence Awards held on the 28th of October 2022 in Gaborone. Stanbic Bank sponsored the awards and prizes for the 2021 Top 10 Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Education Achievers to the value of P150,000.00.
The Awards are a National project that aims to encourage robust performance during National examinations. Top students comprised learners from Mater Spei College, Naledi Senior Secondary School, Moshupa Senior Secondary School, St Joseph College, Shashe River School (2), Letlhakane Senior Secondary School, Selibe Phikwe Senior Secondary School, Madiba Senior Secondary School and Masunga Senior Secondary School. Prizes included an Apple MacBook Air laptop for the Golden Star Student (Presidential Award recipient), 9 x 64GB Apple iPads, and 10 x trophies.
Stanbic Bank Botswana Head of Brand & Marketing, Stephanie Sandridge said “the last few years have been challenging, and to be able to continue and thrive in one’s studies in this period is truly commendable. We are incredibly proud of the students this year, and in particular commend the top ten (10) performers for their stellar results. They are indeed an inspiration for us all, and their efforts show us that It Can Be – a brighter future, a stronger academic journey, and a world of infinite possibilities. We are privileged to continue to proudly partner with the BEC to celebrate Botswana’s bright young minds and commend the BEC for this platform, inspiring generation after generation to ignite greatness in and amongst each other as they aspire for excellence.”
Stanbic Bank is passionate about sustainably supporting Government and key stakeholders to help realise the Vision 2036 Pillar of “Human and Social Development,” and, notably, the sub theme of “Education and Skills Development”. This means investing to facilitate greater access to quality and inclusive education, as well as celebrating academic excellence year after year. This is the 8th consecutive year that the Bank has sponsored this component of the annual Awards.
“We are grateful to Stanbic Bank Botswana for their continued support and their determination to keep celebrating, rewarding and inspiring learners. The sponsorship affects learners lives positively and goes a long way to inspire even those who are still studying for their general education to work hard to qualify for the awards” said the BEC Chief Executive Officer Dr. Moreetsi Thobega.
Education and indeed financial education are a core focus area of the Bank’s CSI efforts. Efforts to date include partnership with the BEC, production and dissemination nationwide of financial literacy modules for learners, print and broadcast financial literacy platforms, and a series of recent donations to schools across the country as part of the Bank’s 30th anniversary staff initiative. The bank has invested P940 000.00 (Nine Hundred and Forty Thousand Pula) towards these awards since its collaboration with Botswana Examination Council.
