Botswana Teachers Union (BTU) and Standard Chartered Bank band together to enhance the lives of teachers at the Union’s 7th Congress of Delegates to be held on the 23rd to the 26th July in Palapye. The Bank is committing P358,000 to sponsor the Congress, in an effort to deepen its long-standing relationship with the union by supporting efforts to invest more into the financial wellbeing of the members.

“Standard Chartered has been financing public education as a partner to BTU for many years,  enabling members to advance their lives through the various financial solutions offered by the Bank. Whether it is elevating their skillsets by financing members’ studies, helping them build homes, or investing in the members’ ability to build wealth, we stay committed to BTU to bring equity, access and quality to public education. A financially empowered teaching fraternity is better equipped to inspire and influence a future-ready work force.” Stated Mpho Masupe, Chief Executive Officer at Standard Chartered Bank.

The BTU Congress brings together educators, policy makers, and other key stakeholders from across the country to deliberate on improving the quality of members’ professional and economic lives. The congress will delve into opportunities to build further capacity for teachers and to adequately resource & protect members to enhance their financial capacity.

To show gratitude to the Palapye community for hosting the congress, Bank staff will be engaging local primary schools by donating a total of 1500 books as well as offering financial literacy and career guidance sessions.

“As we get ready to refine the roadmap to increasingly capacitate Botswana’s teachers, it is important to reflect & honour the invaluable impact the union has made to educators in Botswana, since it’s inception. The union forms the infrastructure that advocates for the interests & overall quality of life for teachers, continually ensuring they get access to assets that members can use to build wealth and further impact their respective communities. For Standard Chartered, being a part of this infrastructure as a trusted wealth management and banking partner, underscores our enduring commitment to support education and build capacity for the future of Botswana.” Stated Mr Masupe.
