Gaborone, Botswana, 03 May 2023/ – PPC Botswana has partnered with the Pilane community to build a block of three classrooms to address the acute shortage of classrooms at Pilane Primary School in Kgatleng district. The donation includes a P100,000 worth of cement.
The shortage of classrooms has resulted in some pupils being taught outside and in corridors, while others were put on a shift system. The Covid-19 pandemic and current weather conditions have exposed the seriousness of the shortage of classrooms at the school. These challenges have and continue to affect the pupils’ learning, and this situation is more likely to worsen as more developments are planned for the Pilane area.
” We are pleased to partner with the Pilane community in the construction of the classroom block which will enable students to be taught in a conducive environment,” said Tuelo Botlhole, the PPC Botswana Head of Business Unit. “At PPC Botswana, we believe that education is a key driver of social and economic development, and we are committed to empowering the youth in which we operate.”
The ground-breaking ceremony for the classroom block took place this past Friday, and the PPC Botswana team participated in a sponsored walk to mark the occasion. This initiative speaks to PPC Botswana’s two key Corporate Social Investment pillars: Infrastructural development and education.
PPC Botswana has a long legacy of contributing to the development of Botswana. The company has undertaken several CSI initiatives, including the Mogonono School, sewing women in Molepolole, and the handover of Palapye house. PPC Botswana’s purpose is to empower people to experience a better quality of life.
When accepting the token, the Minister of Trade and Industry and also Member of Parliament for Mochudi West , Mmusi Kgafela expressed his gratitude towards the development efforts of PPC Botswana, stating that communities can only grow if people unite and help each other in the development of their community. “It gives us delight that companies like PPC Cement contribute to the development of education. These donations will go a long way in create future leaders of our country.”
PPC Botswana has previously donated 12 desktop computers and workstations valued at P180,000 to Tlhale Primary School in the Gumare region and Mogonono Primary School in the Kweneng district, which received textbooks worth P100,000.
