The Kareng RADs Hostel Sports Festival 2025 was a resounding success, bringing together 198 children—both boys and girls—from pre-primary level to Standard 6 in a vibrant celebration of sport, talent, and youth development. Hosted by Wecho Trust, the annual festival continues to play a vital role in nurturing young talent and promoting education through sport.
Participants competed in a wide range of sporting codes, including football, volleyball, boxing, judo, athletics, netball, and table tennis. These activities not only encouraged physical fitness and teamwork but also exposed the children to diverse sporting opportunities, helping them discover and develop their individual talents.
Beyond the main sporting events, the festival featured exciting pre-festival activities designed to build confidence and creativity among the children. These included a Talent Show and a Beauty Pageant, culminating in the crowning of Miss Wecho 2025. These events provided a platform for self-expression and boosted the participants’ self-esteem.
The 2025 edition was further elevated by the participation of members of the Botswana National Athletics Team. Festival Ambassador Leungo Scotch, accompanied by fellow athletes Victor Ntweng and Kemorena Tiisang, played a key role in training, coaching, and motivating the young participants. Their presence served as a powerful source of inspiration, showing the children what is possible through dedication, discipline, and hard work.
Wecho Trust acknowledges the invaluable support of its partners and donors who contributed to the success of the Kareng Sports Festival. These include Akheel Jinabhai & Associates, Phakalane Estates, GIPS, Fan’Mo Sports Agency, and the Botswana National Sports Commission. Their commitment has been instrumental in using sport as a tool to positively impact the lives of children.
Wecho Trust extends its heartfelt gratitude to all partners for their immense support in hosting the Kareng RADs Hostel Sports Festival 2025. Feedback from participants has been overwhelmingly positive, with many children expressing increased motivation to attend school so they can continue participating in sport. This outcome reaffirms the festival’s mission of using sport as a pathway to education, empowerment, and a brighter future for young people.
