In response to the devastating floods that have swept across Botswana, Orange Botswana Foundation has stepped up with a P180,000 relief package to support national rescue and recovery efforts. The Orange Botswana Foundation, has committed financial aid and essential supplies to the Office of the President and the Gaborone City Council, reinforcing its dedication to disaster response and community welfare.
The catastrophic flooding has damaged infrastructure, homes, and vehicles, leaving many families displaced. With emergency teams working around the clock, Orange Botswana Foundation’s contribution aims to alleviate pressure on rescue efforts and ensure swift support to affected communities.
To directly aid search and rescue operations, Orange Botswana Foundation has allocated P100,000 to the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO), covering accommodation and meals for boat operators and rescue teams. Funds will be transferred directly to their Orange Money accounts for immediate access. The donation also includes P20,000 worth of airtime and 1,000 litres of water to bolster communication and logistical operations.
At the city level, the Orange Botswana Foundation has donated P50,000 to the Gaborone City Council, along with an additional P10,000 in airtime and 1,000 litres of water to assist in coordinating emergency response efforts. Orange Botswana Foundation has partnered with 03 Beverages who are the water partners.
Orange Botswana CEO, Néné Maïga, emphasized the company’s unwavering commitment to supporting the nation in times of crisis, “this is a moment for all of us to come together. The resilience of our emergency teams and city officials is truly commendable, and we are honored to stand with them. Our donation is not just financial, it is a statement of solidarity and a commitment to helping rebuild lives.”
She further highlighted the critical role of digital connectivity in disaster response, “in times of crisis, communication is vital. By providing airtime and essential resources, we are ensuring that rescue teams remain connected and equipped to carry out their life-saving missions.”
Maïga urged the private sector to play an active role in national relief efforts, “corporate Botswana must take responsibility and step up in moments like these. Disaster relief is not just the government’s responsibility, it is a shared role. We urge fellow businesses to contribute meaningfully and help accelerate recovery efforts.”
The National Disaster Management Office has commended Orange Botswana for prioritizing the welfare of frontline rescue personnel and providing much-needed resources to sustain ongoing relief efforts.
