Orange Botswana joined hands with the Gaborone City Council and members of the local community to commemorate World Environment Day through its Engage for Change initiative, reinforcing its commitment to environmental sustainability and community development.

Held in Gaborone North, the initiative brought together Orange Botswana employees, city officials, and community members for a large-scale clean-up campaign that included litter picking and the installation of waste bins at selected locations. The activity was designed to promote responsible waste management, encourage cleaner public spaces, and inspire greater environmental stewardship among residents.

Speaking at the event, Orange Botswana CEO Néné Maïgasaid the initiative reflects the company’s broader commitment to creating lasting positive impact beyond its core business operations.

“At Orange Botswana, sustainability is not just a corporate responsibility; it is a commitment that guides how we engage with our communities. Through our Engage for Change programme, we are empowering our employees to contribute meaningfully to causes that improve the quality of life for Batswana while protecting the environment for future generations,” said Maïga.

She added that World Environment Day provides an important platform for collective action.

“Environmental conservation requires the participation of all stakeholders. By working together with the Gaborone City Council and community members, we are demonstrating that small actions, when undertaken collectively, can create significant and lasting change in our communities,” saidMaïga.

Gaborone Deputy Mayor Mankie Sekete commended Orange Botswana for its continued commitment to community development and environmental responsibility.

“Partnerships such as this one are essential in helping us build a cleaner, greener and more sustainable city. We applaud Orange Botswana for taking a proactive role in environmental conservation and for mobilising its employees to contribute towards the wellbeing of our communities,” said Sekete.

The installation of waste bins is expected to support ongoing efforts to improve waste disposal practices in the area while encouraging residents to take greater ownership of their environment.

The initiative forms part of Orange Botswana’s broader sustainability agenda, which focuses on creating positive social, environmental and economic impact through responsible business practices and active community engagement.

As the world marked World Environment Day under the global call for greater environmental action, Orange Botswana reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that contribute to cleaner communities and a more sustainable future for Botswana.
