The BMW PGA Championship – which was first played in 1955 as the British PGA Championship – has a prize fund of US $9million and is part of the prestigious Rolex Series, which comprises the five outstanding tournaments on the DP World Tour.
The defending champion is New Zealand’s Ryan Fox, who claimed the 2023 title by one stroke ahead of the English duo of Tyrrell Hatton and Aaron Rai. Fox will be back in Surrey to try and win the tournament for a second successive time.
“I’m immensely proud of my victory at the BMW PGA Championship. It’s such an iconic tournament and I can’t wait to come back in September to defend my title,” said the New Zealander.
“I’ve always enjoyed coming to Wentworth Club, and when I was able to create some of my own history last year in front of my family and friends, it was very special, and I’ll have those memories forever.”
The high-class field will also feature former champion Rory McIlroy, who will be looking to win the tournament again 10 years after his first and only triumph at Wentworth.
“I’ve always enjoyed playing at the BMW PGA Championship, and I’ve had some great results round the West Course in the past,” said the 15-time DP World Tour winner. “Wentworth is a place where I would like to add another title.”
Other top players to watch at the BMW PGA Championship are English favourites Justin Rose, Matt Fitzpatrick and Tommy Fleetwood, former champions Shane Lowry and Billy Horschel, and Ryder Cup stars such as Luke Donald, Nicolai Højgaard, Robert MacIntyre, and Sepp Straka.
“The BMW PGA Championship holds a special place in my heart,” said Donald. “Winning in 2011 and 2012 is something I will never forget. Playing in front of the passionate English fans, with their incredible support and the electrifying atmosphere at Wentworth, is an experience like no other.”
