Orange Botswana has signed a sponsorship agreement with the Botswana National Sports Commission (BNSC) for the inaugural FNBB Golden Grand Prix. The hallmark sponsorship, valued at P600,000.00, will see the delivery of the 2023 edition of the acclaimed and highly anticipated event, with Orange Botswana as the Gold Sponsor.
“We are excited to be part of this prestigious event. It stands to raise the Botswana flag higher both literally and figuratively, providing an opportunity for local businesses to benefit from athletes and spectators making their way to Botswana, and reviving sports tourism in Botswana. Orange Botswana is committed to the growth of the local sports community and our dedication to athletics in particular is well established.
As the main sponsor of the Orange Phikwe National Marathon, the Orange FA Cup in its 4th season now, to having Letsile Tebogo as our brand ambassador, we hold this talent, discipline, and beauty of this sporting code in the highest regard.
Our vision is to cultivate sporting talent further towards the development and commercialisation of sports in Botswana. Our decision to sponsor the FNBB Golden Grand Prix is yet another testament to this,” said Orange Botswana Chief Marketing Officer, Yves Famien,
Botswana has been given the opportunity by the World Athletics to host the Botswana Golden Grand Prix, a World Athletics Continental Tour, and officially part of the World Athletics calendar. The athletics event is part of an annual series of independent track and field athletic competitions. The Botswana Golden Grand Prix is one of the only two World Continental Tour Gold Track and Field competitions hosted in Africa annually, and the only one in Southern Africa with a Gold status.
This makes it a major attraction for international professional athletes and spectators. Botswana has been given the rights to host this esteemed event for 3 years, from 2023 to 2025. An event of such magnitude will shine a light on our local commitment to the sport and potentially enhance the Nation’s sports tourism opportunities.
The Botswana National Sports Commission (BNSC) CEO, Tuelo Serufho said, “We are proud to welcome Orange Botswana on board as the Gold Sponsor. This sponsorship is a testament to Orange Botswana’s commitment to the development of athletics in Botswana and the African continent.
With their support, Mr. Glody Dube’s Golden Door Sport Agency working with all of us at MYSC, BNSC, BNOC, and BAA we will be able to provide a world-class platform and experience for our athletes to showcase their talent and compete at the highest level. We are ever grateful for their contribution and look forward to a successful partnership.”
The Botswana Golden Grand Prix will take place on the 29th of April 2023 at the National Stadium in Gaborone. Talent already garnering attention for their participation includes 28 local athletes among them Letsile Tebogo, Isaac Makwala, and Christine Botlogetswe just to mention a few, and international names such as three-time Olympic champion Shelly-Anne Fraser-Pryce and American Sprint sensation Sh’carri Richardson.
